Best Homeschool Planner

A planner does two jobs: it tells you what to teach this week, and later it proves what you taught. The best one is the one you will open every morning. Here is how the main types compare.

How to choose

  • Dated or undated. Dated planners are faster to use; undated ones forgive missed weeks and odd school calendars.

  • Subjects per day. Count the subjects and children you teach. A weekly spread needs enough rows for all of them.

  • Parent planner vs student planner. Kids from about 4th grade can keep their own assignment planner, which builds independence.

  • Records built in. Attendance and grade pages in the planner mean one less thing to track.

Questions families ask

When should I plan the homeschool year?

Most families sketch the whole year by subject in summer, then plan each week in detail on the weekend before.

Do I need to keep my homeschool planner?

Many families keep planners as part of their records. A few states ask for a log or portfolio; a planner can help show what you taught.
