Frequently asked questions

How many days is a homeschool year?

It depends on your state. Some set 180 days (or an equivalent number of hours), others set an hourly total, and many set no minimum at all. Check your state, then enter that number here.

When will I finish 180 days if I start in August?

Starting in mid-August, schooling Monday to Friday and taking common holidays and a winter break, most families reach 180 days in late May or early June. Enter your own dates above for an exact answer.

Can I school four days a week?

Yes, in most states. Untick Friday above and you will see how far your end date moves. Some families school year-round with shorter weeks.

What counts as a school day?

Any day of intentional learning: lessons, field trips, co-op classes, library and museum visits. Sick days, holidays and vacation days do not count.

Once the year is planned, log each day as you go with the Attendance Tracker, and check your state's number in our attendance guide.
